Sales & Trading in Tokyo

Hi everybody,

I am currently studying towards a degree in finance in a French business school, and hopefully in 1.5 years I will have finished and start working in banking.

I am interested in working within sales & trading, and was wondering what opportunities are there in Tokyo. Does anyone have an idea of which European and American banks have a significant presence in sales & trading in Tokyo (comparable to London)? Which ones have the biggest presence there?

By the way, is it feasible for an European citizen to go work there directly after graduation, or is it complicated to get a Visa? Do Euro/American banks installed in Tokyo hire graduates from Europe, or do they just hire people from Asia?

And finally, concerning language, is it "mandatory" to speak Japanese to hope to get a job there?

Thank you for your answers.

Language is actually one of the most important things for getting a job in Japan. There are tons of well qualified people who can do the work in one language but very few who can do it in two.
