Sealed Juvenile Record
Curious, I am 24 years old 9 years ago at age 15 I took my family car without permission. Long story short my friend driving, I as passenger got caught by sheriff. My parents asked that I stay a night in juvenile hall, my fingerprints were taken. In WA this is a class c felony, my parents regret their parental decision now. My charge was deffered and then we sealed the record. I was told I could answer No on conviction questions on application, so I have. I have applied for a non licensed assistant position with a large firm. They are doing a third-party background check including FBI fingerprints. I checked with my local authorities and there is no record found, they cross checked FBI, there is no record. BUT I have read that the fingerprints can come back, and the FBI can show this as well as a sealed record. Anyone have experience with this?
no experience with this, but given the details you gave it sounds like you'll be fine man
you could have shown that you successfully turned a mischevious act that reeks of immaturity at the young age of 15 into a fine young mature gentleman (tell me about your biggest regret in life). know what i mean?
not sure if its too late though. all the best

I was just offered a job and will be taking my Series 7 soon. I have never had any previous issues with my background check, but I am a little concerned now as I hear FINRA goes pretty deep.
Almost 13 years ago, when I was 17, I was convicted as a minor for a forgery charge and theft by deception. When I saw a lawyer about this a couple years ago he told me it's not worth expunging because it shouldn't show up on any background checks unless they are for positions such as corrections or state police.
Do I have anything to worry about here?
Probably. Forgery, theft, and the like are the absolute worst for anything in financial services. Maybe your record is sealed because you were a minor at the time? That's your best hope. I suggest you consult a lawyer.
Yes the record is sealed and is 15 years old at this point. It's technically not a felony or misdemeanor because I was a juvenile, but due to the nature of it, it will pop up as a felony I'm told.
I may expunge it, but if they can see it either way then what's the point? I called FINRA and they said I have to reveal it and it likely would Bar me from the industry unless my hiring firm submits some documentation. I guess I'm screwed since I wouldn't expect them to go the extra mile on a new hire.
