Seeking Input - Pre-MBA gap year ideas
Hey all,
In a bit of a career pickle and looking for some wisdom on here:
Currently 27 and have 5 years of experience since undergrad. Majority of experience is in AgTech, most recently as an early employee at an international startup (no ownership options). Unfortunately it took me a while to figure out my true interest of finance, but I've realized I want to make a pivot into Ag Investment (PE or VC, not asset mgmt). Have been networking hard, and am planning on applying to B-School next fall (for Fall 2021 start). Passed CFA level 1 last year, and have completed the Wall Street Prep course.
My current debate is what to do in the interim (1.5 years until potential school start). Although there is upside at my current company, I'm very frustrated with it since there's really no opportunity for finance experience. There's a tiny biz dev team which I could maaaaybe get into. I'm debating applying for a few external roles just so I could get some actual finance experience before school. I also have a burning desire to move abroad (Lived in Brazil previously and speak Portuguese), but the chances of finding an opportunity both abroad AND in finance seem low. Most likely need to choose one...
My concerns are:
a) Potentially burning bridges knowingly going somewhere else for a short period of time
b) This job hopping reflecting poorly on MBA applications. Have one promotion in my current company, but this is my 3rd company since undergrad.
c) Regretting not moving abroad when I was relatively young, single, debt-free, etc.
Would love to hear anyone's opinions or ideas. Thank you all in advance!
