Selby Jennings Headhunter Reviews

Does anybody have experience with this company? Is it reputable? I don't want my CV spread out all over different networks...

Selby Jennings Headhunters Complaints

Generally speaking, our users had negative things to say about this headhunting firm. A sample of their thoughts are shared below.

TippyTop11 - Private Equity Associate They seem to only care about measuring your comp, so they have a database to sell to companies. Avoid them.

Several users shared the sentiment that they spam the job boards and widely distribute your resume.

NuevoBanker Yeah, they spam job boards as well as your cv, give you no answers etc, Do not contact them.

TeddyTheBear - Real Estate Vice President I got calls from them before and they have no idea what the hell the meaning of bulge bracket is. Every time they called me they said they have this top BB bank looking to fill a spot. I get interested and it turns out the banks are no names I have never even heard of from countries like Japan and one was a community bank from Canada or something. They are salesmen and they try to sell you on jobs.

caparb - Hedge Fund Portfolio Manager These guys are spam artists. Most of their "searches" are efforts to find potential clients. Typically they send you an email asking whether you'd be interested in a particular role. If/when you respond to that email, they set up a phone appointment. During the call, they will ask where you've been interviewing. At this point, you have two options: 1) make up some random funds/banks, or 2) refuse to disclose the info. Either way, they'll say that the original role has been filled, but they'd be happy to help you in your search...and that will be the last you hear from them.

hey, trazer985! As you said, what kind of answer is "wise"? An applicant would typically, in my opinion, avoid submitting several CVs to a same company because it means a CV in trash bin. Therefore, he or she got to tell where else applied. Do you have any hints? Thanks

Would agree. They seem to only care about measuring your comp, so they have a database to sell to companies. Avoid them.

26 Broadway where's your sense of humor?

I know this post is dated. But would like to warn others. Dont trust Shelby under ANY circumstance. Even if they offer you an interview with Warren Buffet at Berkshire Hathaway!

I have to agree with u guys................. they don't seems to be working, like all recruitment firms............. wonder why employers still use them

I hate dealing with these staffing agencies They mostly have really crappy jobs that they try to feed you and they have lied multiple times to me

Very bad firm, only calls when they want something from you, and never ever replies your emails or calls. Don't trust them at all.

Again, avoid at all costs. I had an offer through them but wanted to decline it. Recruiter got angry, berated me and then made me talk to his "client" to say thanks but no thanks - totally fine, they understood. Then lied to me saying another process I was in through them didn't want me (I reached out directly to the firm and found out nothing of the sort).

Also, don't think I'll ever be comfortable with a kid just out of uni who has had one job giving me career advice.

Ones in Singapore (Jamie and Jonathan) are to be avoided at all costs. Jamie told me to follow up after an initial phone call and that never happened, and then after 2,3 weeks his colleague Jonathan emailed me to talk about the same opportunity, again. I wasn't interested in that position, so I didn't bother to talk but after another week or so, he emailed me abour another opportunity. When I replied, he told me that he would want to talk to me on the day because he would be forwarding CVs that afternoon. I thought it was a bad sign that he couldn't bothered to find another time that suits candidates but i gave him my number and he called but there was nobody on the other side of the line and I hung up. I wouldn't be wasting my time on them ever again. There are many good recruiters out there.

I realize this is an old thread but I've been getting a lot of recruiting calls, more than usual, lately and would like to know what firms are legit. I have a non-traditional background so as a 1st year Associate this is my first time time speaking with IB recruiters. I'd like to begin a dialogue with some good recruiters but I'm quite concerned about confidentially. I've received calls from Selby Jennings, Pinpoint Partners and The Travillian Group. I started another thread about Travillian because I couldn't find any info on WSO about them. Good feedback on them and I did speak with them, seems like a solid FIG focused shop. I've heard terrible things about Selby & Pinpoint. Any other recommendations? Ideally FIG focused.

Re. Selby: They have some stuff that are real, some that are shady. They'll throw out words like 'elite boutique' when in reality the firm is a mid/borderline top tier middle market firm. They're the kind of people you want to use in the right way but never trust, so I'd be cautious.

Be very clear and bold if you don't want them to send your resume around because I've had an experience where the recruiter (Cesar) will mass send and spam the resumes without permission - be very careful

From my experience, I can echo other people's concerns about the firm. My experience has not been good with them so far and I probably will stick to more traditional routes going forward.

I had a call with Spencer Ogden (uk) and I had a kid telling me about the market and he had two jobs. I told him about my experience and turns out I wasn't what they were looking for, he wasted 15 minutes of my life.

Absolutely horrible. Talked to some idiot there named Zachary Ragatz out of the NYC office. Avoid Selby Jennings at all costs and they need to be called out on how they treat people.

Who are some decent recruitments firms in Singapore? Selby doesn't seem to be very trustworthy

Honestly, you can just do recruitment yourself. Know a few platforms that can connect you directly to bankers. Cheapest one I've found is https://goo.gl/xZ3cay</a">The Lobby. If you're looking for tech recruiting, there are a few more in that space that I haven't used personally, but have recently come across. Just message me or reply here and I'll find the links. So much better than having to deal with a headhunter. Didn't even know these types of services existed a few months ago, so I try to share them when I can

I just looked into The Lobby it seems like a great resource.

I would really appreciate knowing any other resources like this that you know of. I'm currently transitioning into finance after nine years in the Marine Corps. At the moment, I'm in an MBA program at a non-target, will be with an ABCD this summer in a Commodities Trading Internship, and am exploring opportunities in IB, so The Lobby looks like something that could be pretty helpful.

Thanks for the help.

To add on - Its a revolving door of fresh grads in that firm. Every time they called me, its some newbie who fished for info, and its a different consultant calling.. I heard their turnover is high so in a year I probably have 4 -5 different consultants covering the same space calling me.

This is why they do not have meaningful relationships in the market. I have worked with some elite recruitment firms and the people generally stay long, so i always have one of contact and its much easier that way. I guess a simple trait of a crap recruitment firm like Shelby jennings is the fact even their own employees can't stay long as well.

Avoid them at all costs...
