Should I drop my quant internship
This firm is relatively no name.
Would my time be better utilized just networking all summer/ forage virtual internships or writing code for trading strategies?
I want to break into M&A advisory.

Career Resources
Put yourself in the shoes of your interviewer. Do you want to talk to person who had no internships over the summer but tried to network or the person who spent a summer learning about financial markets, math, and coding?
If you don’t have an internship employers will think you weren’t good enough to get one. With a quant internship you can talk about all you learned, show you have analytical capabilities, talk about your passion for markets, etc and then talk about how that made you realize you want to pivot to M&A or whatever you want. Additionally, why can’t you network while doing the internship? You should be able to handle both.
I would definitely do the internship so you have things to talk about in your interviews.
That makes sense.
From my research and experience from those in the industry, it seems that networking is 95% of the battle.
It just seemed to me that there were very little transferable skills. I will take your input into account. Thank you.
Networking is so important because there are so many qualified candidates. But a few things:
1) networking “full time” over the summer won’t get you much more than spending a few hrs outside of work trying to network
2) networking without an internship (and I have no idea about your school and grades) is going to be a disadvantage.
Again, networking is so important because it helps get you in the door of a competitive industry. But it’s hard to convince someone to push for you if you don’t have the other boxes checked. Do both, you need to be able to handle that sort of workload if you are going to work in IB. If you hate quant or think you’ll be miserable, then please prioritize yourself (do what makes you happy), but don’t do it because you think that networking is going to be better for your career than this internship + lighter networking.
Thanks for the input again.
I will probably stick with it.
