Should I go get it?

Last week I had an amazing first phone interview with a MD of a new born boutique shop. Take into consideration that I'm lateraling specifically for a culture reason. It just felt so right, the culture, the motivation for this MD to start his own shop and the culture she wants to imprint in the team. I have been told that I have been short-short listed, but that they won't take a final decision before April, and also that I would be welcome to visit their office to meet the other 2 partners. Now this means to fly out at my expense and taking sick days. Should I go get it, or should I wait for them to make the next move? Will it be seen as a bold appreciated move?

A little concerning they want you to fly out on your own dime to meet their partners, especially if they're so convinced they want you. It seems that the value you'll create for them upon joining is substantially higher than a plane ticket, yet they don't wish to spring the funds to fly you out there. Kind of a weird way to start a working relationship...

Ah, I understand now, I should've clarified. It sounds like they're being polite and inclusive-- not requiring it. While going out there will help, it sounds like it's already in the bag for you and may be a waste of time.

From the opposite end, I don't know how much going out there will make a sure thing even more certain. And they may find it disconcerting if (over the course of the trip) they find out you called out of work and did some low key maneuvering to your current firm to see them. You know the nuance of the situation better than me though, I'm just going off a few sentences.

It is always better to meet in person, so if money and time is not too big of an issue you should consider visiting. Given the 'deadline' they have put on themselves, time is on your side, I would say.

The way I would look at it: a) Going there would show that I am truly interested in finding out more about them and establishing a real connection no matter whether they hire me. This might hold the door open for me in the future in case they pick someone else. b) A visit could change my opinion about the people/firm and save me the trouble of making a commitment.
