Should I Try to Break into Consulting?
I am a rising senior at a semi-target with a 3.9+ GPA. I have boutique PE and IB internships. I am also president of two clubs (one finance and the other hobby related).
I currently have a big 4 valuation internship on the table that does not expire until December. My end goal is to break into a hedge fund. Although IB/ER are the best paths, I did not apply during the SA cycle and now hiring is basically dead in those industries.
In a non-COVID year, I could get interviews with all major consulting firms including the likes of Bain and BCG through OCR. While I likely can still get interviews, I would have to go all in on case interviews and likely end up at a T2-3. Would a T2-3 consulting job position me better than big 4 valuation to eventually break into HF?
I anticipate going from valuation or consulting to mm IB or ER to HF/jump to BB IB/ER then to HF.
