Should I use working email to network internally?

I want to network with the IBD group senior analyst in my company. Is it suggested to network with working email? Or should I send the senior analyst message on LinkedIn? Thank you all!
I think it's fine to email internally and ask for a coffee. I've chatted with lots of people from different groups.
