Similiarites of working as a CPA and CFA in the long run

We all know that the CFA and CPA are different but what are the similiarities between the two besides the foundation of business. What similiar career paths can you take with either of the two on your resume if you expect promotions in your future? Is it a good idea to have both the CFA and CPA on your resume or is that too much?

I'd say that while getting both can be overkill, if you are going to only get two certifications, these are probably the one's to get. The CPA is the ultimate accounting license and the CFA is the ultimate finance certification. So both would never hurt someone. Does anyone else have thoughts on this?

I'm also curious about this, I'm just finishing my CPA/CA and wanted to branch into finance.

Is there an extensive benefit of obtaining my CFA as well? I'm currently deciding whether or not to sit in the December Level 1 exam. A couple of my friends that work at the larger Canadian banks say they love CPA's in equity research, but I would want to have an edge over other applicants if possible.
