[Singapore] Can anyone share some advice on the finance scene here?

Profile * 2018 Grad: non-target, 3.6/4.0 GPA, Economics and Finance * 1 corp fin advisory boutique intern * 1 boutique 'PE' firm (not a real buyout PE, more of a minority investor) whom I turned down a full time offer

I'm currently a product specialist at UBS Wealth Management on a contract, but I prefer working with valuation and companies than portfolio management on a sales front.

Entry jobs here are extremely competitive, my profile will get dinged from most graduate programs, versus the million and one double first class honors from local target universities, much less IBD. I could get into other boutique PEs (I'm at least getting calls and interviews rather than radio silence), but they're less "posh" and lower pay than working as a investment operations or front office WM sales role at a bulge.

Should I pursue the boutique PE/Corp Fin route who pay 2-3k only or take the WM / investment ops at bulge who pays 4-5k? I plan to take a Msc in Finance in UK (LSE, Oxbridge) in 2020 seeing as I've not prepared for GMAT for 2019 intake.

How non target is your non target? Your internship experience is decent. 3.6 / 4.0 should get you some interviews. Folks with GPAs lower than that from nus/ntu/smu have gotten into s&t positions in international investment banks. An msc at Oxbridge would give you another shot at recruitment but you would be recruiting for an analyst position in 2021 ; not ideal. My advice ? Both your offers are decent - take whichever one interests you now and position yourself for an M7 MBA in 3-4years

Hi, thanks for sharing.

I am from SIM RMIT. HR from bigger firms always ask if I studied in Australia and ding me when I respond that its SIM campus. Especially OCBC, DBS, GIC, Temasek etc.

Is 2021 analyst considered too old? I'm only 25, I've seen people at 27 who have just finished their masters too.
