Small Town Kid

Hey guys, looking for advice here.

I am a junior right now going through the recruiting process. I go to a school that is both a target and non-target depending on who you ask.

I grew up in a small town in Idaho. Population has risen to a massive 6000 since I graduated from high school, and it’s pretty much what you would expect from a small town- guns, trucks and Trump supporters. I come from a pretty blue collar family- my dad works in equipment rental, so while my friends were working on the farm, I was servicing tractors. I wasn’t really interested in IB until I got to college, and I know now that it’s what I want to do. The problem is that it is highly concentrated in places like NYC and SF, which can be pretty daunting places to people like me. My question is- has anyone gone through the same thing? How did you adjust? Anything I should know?

So you go to Brown? I'm sure your college town is bigger than your home town. A move to SF or NY is just another bump up that ladder! There seems to be a consensus that you should spend your analyst years in NY for networking purposes. That doesn't necessarily mean you have to stay in the big city forever.
