Software developer -> quant dev

Hi, Just a little background about myself: I did my undergrad in engineering and has been working at a fintech company for about two years. My role is web application development so it is not completely relevant. I would like to become a quant developer but feel like I am lacking the financial background to do the switch. I have taken the CFA exam and am also thinking of doing a master in statistics ( focus on applied stat in finance course). Any advice on how should I improve myself? Thanks in advance and happy holidays!
