Sophomore Transfer Situation, Stony Brook To Baruch
Currently I'm a sophomore at a huge non-target, Stony Brook University. First semester I didn't exactly know what I wanted to do, ended up with a weak 3.4 GPA and no real work/EC to name on my resume. Seriously looked at my options and interests and decided to go with finance as a career. Got a 4.0 and started networking this Fall semester, but after researching realized that Stony Brook isn't the place to be. My only real option right now is to transfer to Baruch, as I have only a slim chance at NYU and on top of that it'll be a good amount pricier.
Is it worth transferring to Baruch? Obviously tons more internship/networking opportunities, that I'm sure I'll need to utilize coming from a mid-target school. My end goal is ibanking, but I know I'll need to network my ass off starting at PWM or AM or ops or something else. Should I even bother with the hassle of applying to NYU only to be rejected, and even if I were to be accepted possibly not go due to the money issue. Again I'll probably only spend 2 years at Baruch (Junior and Senior year), and I'm confident I'll end up with a 3.9+ GPA at Baruch.
Stony Brook to Baruch transfer, a no-brainer?
Yes, Baruch has placement. SB does not. You need to get into their honors program though to have a better shot. Work on getting a PWM/boutique IBD internship this summer though before you even get there so you have something on a resume for junior recruiting.
A 5th year is also possible/might be a good idea since it will give you an extra year to build a better resume.
You're referring to the Zicklin Honors program, correct? Just looking at it, requires a 3.6+ GPA, which is extremely doable. Also would a 5th year definitely be a benefit to me? I was thinking of trying to avoid a 5th year, and taking as many credits per semester, along with winter classes to avoid that; I don't know at all how many of my credits will transfer over and how many I'll need to complete my major and core classes.
Dude, I go to Baruch regular. Just hustle hard, get good grades, go to the corporate events, be aware of your resources, join FLP junior year, get part time job/internship. The opportunities are there. I interned at two BB, one F100, and I am a junior...I have two interviews setup next week for this summer. OCR has definitely improved over the years. Just got to be a self starter and be resourceful.
