Staffer making analysts complete summer intern project?

They changed the summer analyst project slightly from last year so the staffer and others are making full time analysts complete and present the summer analyst project "as a learning opportunity" individually on top of their assigned workload. Even better is that it only applies to the analysts under the vertical that's relevant to the project, so a good chunk of other analysts don't have to do it.

Is this common? I've never heard of banks making full time analysts do summer intern work. Most of us are already getting cranked and now are expected to complete this project, oversee intern work and help them with their project, and work on your deals at the same time.

Any advice would be helpful.

If your workloads are actually unmanageable now that this summer project is on, then talk to your staffer.

I can’t imagine you’re group has a lot to do given the current environment, unless you’re in Rx. So I’d imagine they gave it to you because your work loads are light.
