stockholm school of economics for a non-eu international who speaks swedish
Hello, i’m an international non-eu student who is choosing between sse or bocconi for bachelors. I can speak both italian and swedish but im a non-eu citizen. I know that bocconi is better in terms of finance and banking but i would prefer to live and work in sweden than in italy. How easy would it be for an international who speaks the language to land a top banking/ib role in stockholm given that i would need a sponsor?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights for a non-EU international student considering the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) for a career in banking/IB in Sweden:
Language Proficiency: Speaking Swedish is a significant advantage. It helps in networking and fitting into the local culture, which is crucial for landing roles in Stockholm.
Sponsorship Challenges: As a non-EU citizen, you will need a work permit. While SSE has a strong reputation, securing sponsorship can still be challenging. However, your language skills and local education can make you a more attractive candidate.
Networking: Leverage your time at SSE to build a robust network. Reach out to international alumni and local professionals. Networking is key, especially in a smaller market like Stockholm.
Local Market: The Swedish job market for finance and banking is competitive but not as large as other financial hubs. However, SSE's strong brand and your language skills can give you an edge.
Alternative Options: If sponsorship proves difficult, consider starting your career in a more international-friendly market and later transferring to Sweden. This can sometimes be easier than securing a role directly in Stockholm.
In summary, while Bocconi might have a stronger reputation in finance, your preference for living and working in Sweden, combined with your Swedish language skills, makes SSE a viable option. Focus on networking and leveraging SSE's brand to improve your chances of landing a top banking/IB role in Stockholm.
