Summer Internship as Freshman

Hey guys, I am a freshman at Fordham majoring in economics. Right now I have been totally focused on trying to break into the field as early as possible since I don't go to a high target school. With that being said, I am hoping to find an internship in NYC this summer and gain some experience. I have talked to multiple MD's, VP's, Associates, etc. of BB's and they all recommended that I shoot for one this summer. I just don't know if it is too late at the time of writing this. I know a BB would be a long shot, but I am willing to do anything this summer to grasp some experience. If anyone could push me in the right direction to where I should start or offer some advice, it would be an immense help.
