Tackling the need to keep up

How do you go about relaxing. I am trying my best to just chill this summer before freshman year of college starts. However, I see people my age constantly doing something that is getting them ahead. Things like completing certifications or doing 2 internships at financial firms during the summer. I get really worried because I know I will be competing against them down the line for the same spots in IB/PE/HF, however I also want to enjoy my summer. Did you guys experience this during my age and how did you handle it?

Was in same boat as you. Reached out to many banks this year as I graduated early and I was told one thing; they couldn’t help me until I was in college. I don’t know how your friends did it, maybe with connections, but usually banks only let college students intern. So here is my advice; just chill. You’ll have enough on your plate in the coming years. Enjoy freedom while it lasts lol.

Most important thing is to focus on yourself and not compare to other peers. Like previously mentioned, who knows the connections they maybe have from parents. I didn’t have those and started networking heavily freshman year, attending all information sessions and having calls. Prior to that, I had a summer job as a doorman and valet, lol. Once I got to college and started really focusing, I met the right people and had great senior leadership alumni that took me under their wing. Point is don’t go crazy trying to do things before you even get to college. I didn’t, I focused on the controllable, am in BB IB now and headed to MF PE in a month. It works itself out, I promise you.
