The lesser evil - renege or quit early

(Burner). What would you do in this situation?

I just graduated and have signed a corp dev job starting in Aug, but recently received an offer for my dream job - starting in Jan, with possibility to delay to Feb/Mar.

I have decided that I’ll take the latter of the two as it will open up so many new doors (think top BB/MBB vs. corp dev at mid-sized company).

It’s a position I hate to be in and feel bad for the company I have signed with. My question is thus - which do you think is better for them, to renege now or to work there for 4-6 months and quit?

Would be nice to have a salary for that period but I won’t starve without it.

Honestly I would take the 1st still.

Then there are two options:

1) you either be upfront from the beginning, that you would be leaving in x time and see whether they still “want you”.

2) do 1) but only after 1-2 month after being at the company.

I didn’t use to think this way but now you sometimes have to see it like this - no mater if you are being harsh for the company, the company would be harsh for you if it would fit its best interests. Put yourself first place, loyalty and stuff second. No one will put you first besides yourself, no one will protect your interests.

This all assuming the exp. in corp. development is something you are looking forward to, even if for some months.
