Transitioning from Csuite healthcare -> PE in FL

Just wanted to get some advice on how to proceed.

I have worked in a couple of high level c-suite positions for healthcare companies, and have transitioned to a very small boutique firm that does M&A and also sponsor capital raises for leveraged investments. There's not much going on over here, and no real room to progress, and the one real partner is out traveling the world.

I'm looking to find the right way to get into a PE firm. I'd most desirably move back to South Florida, where there doesn't seem to be a great number of PE firms around. There is Comvest, and HIG, and a few other ones.

Since we're a small shop, I've been tasked with handling everything and anything thrown my way. I've been both buy-side and sell-side M&A on a bunch of transactions in healthcare, CPG, and RE. I do the modeling for the LBO's and talk with banks regarding leverage. I was also at conventions and flying across the country expanding our deal flow and networking. What I don't know, I have to teach myself and spend a good amount of time reading and expanding my skill set. My previous c-suite positions were for a company that went public, and a couple cash exits. My main responsibilities there were compliance, M&A, and corp dev.

I don't come from a prestigious pedigree, but have worked my way up for being young. I have 2 advisory boards that I sit on, one for an international bank that just opened and the other is an international non-profit affiliated with the B&M Gates Foundation. I also consult for some healthcare companies on the side, and have a letter of recommendation from a member of congress for my endeavors as a healthcare professional and investor in the space.

What would be my best route to break into PE, especially in South Florida? Healthcare I know like the back of my hand, and would love to continue to focus on that vertical, but I'm not opposed to other things. I know that there are no public job postings per say, and a lot of recruiting is done via schools and other target companies. How does one best switch from my background to an analyst or associate role in a PE firm? I see a ton of people here having issues landing jobs with extreme pedigrees and plenty of high level experience and M7 schools not being able to land jobs. What should I use as my advantage, and what should I continue to work on or pursue to get me closer to my job breaking into a full fledged PE firm?
