UK Lateralling Guide

Looking for any tips and info on the lateralling process in London to GS/JPM/MS, currently at a v. well-respected firm doing M&A in a sector team (people would probably rank tier 2, 2b whatever the fuck it is these days) but it is just not the level of top 3 and the breadth and depth of strong exits they provide. How similar is it to applying for a FT analyst role from university etc, do you still have to do the same hirevue bs?

Hi, I literally just got an offer lateraling from tier 1 to tier 1 London. Was thinking of writing a post. From talking to the hiring managers, each app these days get on average 1,200 applications for every week they are online, this is up from 800 this time last year for Front Office IB. So the competition is tough, because of the pandemic, a lot of early career analysts/graduates/offcycle/laterals/gap year/cross industry level people are all competing for a spot compared to only analysts/grads/laterals last year. GS has hirevue, MS and JPM sometimes does tests depending on the team. I also found that alot of roles, though posted for a few days then removed often are already taken by internal hires.

The process I went through, will be different for the team:

Submitted app, call with VP, call with ED and another VP, case study, assessment, casual call with associate, case study, call with MD, call with another MD from another team. Overall 8 rounds, from submission of my CV, I first heard back after a month, and then towards the end, I had followups everyday. The overall process took 2 months.

They weren't super technical, but I still knew my stuff, I had my manager from my old BB refer me to the competitor which surprised them the most and accelerated my hiring. My manager couldn't careless that I was moving to a competitor.

Happy to answer Qs.

lol goldman's process is literally the same as the spring week.

hope I convert tho

Thanks for the insight! Did you start networking before applying to the posted roles?
