Underage Fake ID and Background Check

So I'm a Finance major at a regular state university but with a stellar GPA and unique minor.

I was overly carried away with partying throughout my freshman year but have since changed my lifestyle.

I'm just wondering if "Posession of a Counterfeit Driver's License" would truly bar me from the Finance field? I was charged with "fraud" but it was solely alcohol related, and I was nineteen years old at the time.

Can any financial hiring managers provide me with any insight? Have people been hired into finance from my position? Could I even be bonded into an entry-level life insurance position?

My charge was dismissed/expunged after probation by the way, and was a felony.

Yes I was charged with a counterfeit drivers license however it's technically dismissed and expunged now, so I was not convicted.

Normal business HR departments wouldn't see this charge at all on my background check. However FDIC insured institutions (banks, insurance) WILL see the charge regardless.

I mean it's not good to have any criminal record, but I doubt this will be that big of a factor. But I could be wrong.

"It's outrageous, egregious, preposterous. "

I have a defense attorney which is how I was luckily able to have the charge dismissed. He doesn't have a financial background, however, and can't foresee my future job prospects. I guess I'll just call BB hiring managers myself.

Amphipathic, Only the government and FDIC insured institutions can see expunged charges. I guess medical related fields can, too.

But basically banking HR departments can figure out your entire life history, expunged or not.

How much experience do you have in this, chi312?

make sure you tell them right when the interview starts, that you are a liar and like to cheat the system

Chi do you work for the FINRA? How do you know that no one is registered with a Fake ID charge?

I know that is your opinion but I'd prefer more credible responses. Like from financial hiring managers like I said.

TonyPerkins you probably didn't have much of a college experience.

That actually made me El Oh El....your college experience was probably half as much as mine was

I once saw a disclosure on FINRA where someone stole a roast beef sandwich in college. It might not affect the hiring decision(depends on the firm and job), but it is there for everyone to see once you become registered with FINRA.

And it is there for a good reason. If you are a very wealthy individual, do you want to trust your money to someone with a rap sheet for stupid shit? While stealing a roast beef in college is not very significant, producing and using a fake ID is much worse.

In an industry where ethics is constantly being called into question, this is a great regulatory agency to bring some transparency to the people behind the money. When that type of charge is seen, it raises questions about the integrity of that individual.

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

Theft of any type is more significant than possessing a Fake ID. I don't steal. So I didn't have the best of integrity while pledging a fraternity at nineteen years old. I'm now older with a 3.8 cumulative GPA. The charge appears much more serious than the actual crime which is part of my problem. I know that finance guys are party goers. Someone has to of been charged with a fake ID and is now working in IB or at a BB...Maybe even a boutique bank.

Does anyone have any valuable advice to offer?

Edit- I'm not discrediting this post of yours. I do appreciate your reply, as it was logical. I just can't be convinced that I'm truly as "fucked" as you consider me to be.

What about registration with the FINRA if I have already received an offer and they have requested an FBI background check? Will I be able to get registered?

No I mean just having been charged with a felony for the fake id. Although I was convicted of only disorderly conduct, my worry stems from the felony fake id charge.

Get it expunged/sealed as soon as you can. Otherwise it shuldn't be an issue.

When the hell did a fake ID become a felony or anything close to that? Old man statement coming, but I didn't grow up in the 50's (the 80's-90's) and a fake was a nothing charge. Unless you did something incredibly stupendous like get caught with a fake after starting a bar brawl AND setting the bar on fire, cops didn't care. Second time I've seen this type of question on WSO recently and I'm honestly curious.

I understand a severe charge for a fake ID if you laundered money or were an ISIS recruiter but to consume alcohol? Why does this country care so much about such stupid shit?

The reason I was charged with a felony fake id was because the police fucked up the charges. Because I was under 21, the charge should have only been a misdemeanor as I got arrested leaving a bar, but the charged me with a felony anyways. That is in part why the fake id charge, as well as all over charges were dismissed entirely and all I received were two city ordinance violations, no even misdemeanors, for disorderly conduct and was never convicted of a crime. And thanks for all the advice, I will keep update once HR rep responds and when background check goes through.
