Unhappy and don't know what to do

Hey guys.

I have worked at CME Group as an Analyst for almost two years. I have learned a lot about how business is conducted, but I am not happy and don't know what to do.

When I first started, I didn't know exactly where I wanted to go in finance, but I figured that this role would give me experience on my resume and no one would knock me down for having this on my resume. I know I am an analyst and I shouldn't expect glamorous work right off the bat, but I feel like they want me to be a robot, and I'm not learning anything. On top of this, I don't like the work environment and do have much friend there. It makes it harder to meet new friend because I live an hour away.

Every morning that I have to go to work, I feel sick to my stomach, I get bad inflammation, and I just have to drag myself to go. I usually don't have any energy to do anything else by the time I get back home.. . After work, I usually just get home, eat dinner, if I have enough energy, I'll go to the gym, if not watch TV, and before I know it, its already 10pm and I go to bed.

I still don't know what I want to do or if I even want to stay in finance, but I would like to find out.

Can anyone give me some wisdom or advice?

what are your promotion prospects like? would you enjoy being an associate at your current company?

I left my first analyst gig after almost 2 years so this is definitely a good time to start looking to lateral if you feel that would be the best option for you. I would recommend you stay in finance for at least 2 more years in a new job and then reevaluate to see if you want to transition into another industry. Feel free to PM me if you have job search or career related questions.

Thanks for the response. Just wondering, would a 3-6 month gap on my resume look bad? I’m thinking about leaving because I feel miserable and I can’t see myself doing this job for another year.

I would use this time to meet with people in different fields of finance and research different career trajectories and decide what I want to pursue and I guess what I want out of life...

I figure that if I know what I want to do and have a goal, I will work harder and be happier.

Thanks. Just wondering, I own an apartment complex (it can be verified), if I put that during my gap I was a property manager, would that make the gap less off-putting? I honestly only devote about 2-5 hours a week to the building, but I technically wouldn’t be lying.

Don't leave if your haven't first found a new job.

If you want to take a break, get the job first and space out the start date.
