[URGENT] Will an internal audit summer internship help with future IB recruiting?

Hi guys,

I am a sophomore and was just offered an internal audit internship at a relatively large company. The company is pretty big and established, but I don't think it carries much prestige in the name.

My goal is to get a good IB internship next summer (junior year), and was thinking of getting an internship at a boutique this summer. I've contacted a couple boutiques, and so far, no responses.

The person called me today with the internal audit offer, and gave me until tomorrow to decide, and I'm really torn. I want to do something more IB related, but so far I don't have any offer on the table.

One other reason that I'm not ecstatic about the offer is that it's in another city..

My question is, how much will an internal audit internship help with junior year IB recruitment? Should I take the job? Or should I decline and hope that I find something better?

Thanks for answering!

If you had upcoming interviews / waiting on decisions with boutique banks I'd say turn this down. But since you haven't even gotten a response from the boutiques, it is getting late, and you are only a sophomore, I'd say take this internship. It seems better than a BB PWM and it's paid which isn't bad too.

As long as you come up with a great "why IB instead of audit/accounting" and execute it well in interviews this will be a big plus. It shows that you know your shit when it comes to accounting already and have been exposed to the operations (through auditing) of a large company. Sure a sophomore summer IB boutique internship is a little better but you're doing great with this too.
