Use of first names in London IB networking

With regards to LinkedIn networking with older London directors (VP/MD/Partner), is that the norm in London/EU? Is it ever considered rude? Or is the use of "sir" or "Mr [surname]" absolutely unheard of (unlike America)?

Good grief, first names please! I'm an Executive Director by title but I like to think I'm young at least, and "Mr X" makes me feel old (and as another user pointed out, just feels awkward in the UK). And the juniors are recent grads themselves. You might get the odd one-off who feels insulted by being addressed on a first name basis, but maybe you dodged a bullet by getting ignored by them...

Based on the most helpful WSO content, in London and the EU, using first names in LinkedIn networking is generally acceptable and considered the norm, even when reaching out to senior professionals like VPs, MDs, or Partners. The use of "sir" or "Mr. [surname]" is not common and can come across as overly formal or out of place in this context. However, always ensure your tone is respectful and professional. A polite and concise message with a first-name basis is typically well-received.
