Very delayed start to the IB journey
Hi everyone,
I am currently a junior at the best public college in the northeast region. I transferred here after completing my first 2 years at a community college (graduated with a 4.0 GPA and multiple extracurriculars). At my new college, I have completed my first semester and have maintained a perfect GPA here as well.
However, I do not have any work experience (because I didn't have work authorization in the US earlier). Since this is sorted out now, I know I am very delayed into this IB journey, what advice would you have?
The recruting season is over for IB summer 2022 (which is basically my last summer before graduation). What should I do? I am a very hard-working and determined person. I have networked with a few alums too but I am very lost.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, fam!
Take an extra semester. This will allow you to recruit as a sophomore in the spring. Most recruiting for IB has wrapped up other than a few boutiques, so I think taking an extra semester gives you the best shot at landing a SA 2023 offer.
I was actually considering that! I see that you are an IB intern, can I reach out to you directly, if you're comfortable? Also, one of my friends recommended me this Wall street live zoom sessions which cost $2000, I'm not sure if it is even worth it...
Don’t pay $2000. What you could do is (as mentioned above) delay graduation by one semester and for this summer try and land a small internship this summer at a small bank, pwm, pe shop, startup, or some other finance related role.
Then recruit for 2023. Keep networking and studying your technicals to be ready for recruiting season
Thanks, man! That's what I was thinking too. The course's name is Wall Street Global Institute but I just find it hard to believe that I would need to spend 2k dollars in order to break into IB. Like, would you recommend taking the wall street prep course maybe? It costs $500 and is more recognized. Also, how would you recommend preparing for IB interviews (behavioral and technical)
