What does this mean? - Informational phone call with alumni

hey everyone, have a question as to what to do:

I had an informational phone call with alum in trading (fixed income).... even though it was informational (where I said I would ask some questions on his background) he started interviewing me over the phone (option, hedging stuff). I think I did pretty well/ok at the end because he said he would talk to his manager and see if there are positions on his desk. if there were not, he'd forward my resume to hr.

Well, it's been 2 days and he got back to me saying that he talked to his manager for me but don't have anything to tell me yet except things move slow right now (not sure if they have a headcount, if they take new grads, etc). he said to give him some more time and see how it goes.

on the company website however, it lists they are hiring for fixed income division (ft analyst program).

How should I take this situation and move forward? Bad / good? Should I tell him on website they are hiring so he can forward my resume?

What I really want is to join his desk as I am interested in doing what he does, but what does it mean when there is no news yet / he needs more time? Your advice is much appreciated!
