What does this mean?- Unique Waiting Situation

Hi all,

I had a superday last week for a full time analyst position at a place like JPM/GS/MS. They said all decisions would come in 48 hours. I got a call 2 hours afterwards saying it was a "dead heat" between me and another candidate, and they wanted to schedule one more follow up interview on the phone as a decider. One of the md's emailed me back saying i did a great job from that superday.

The phone call went really well on monday (3-4 days ago) and I have been waiting to hear back since but have heard nothing. I even emailed hr today and heard nothing. What do you think this means, am I on hold now? Is this bad news, or does it mean nothing?

Probably on hold, but could be a no news is good news scenario. Best to assume you didn't get it and continue your search.

Honestly, it sounds like they're trying to lock up the other guy. It's pretty much out of your hands now, unless you want to apply some pressure. "I really want to work for you, but I have another opportunity on the table that I already extended based on our previous discussion regarding timeframe." Risky strategy, to be sure. I'm not advocating it, but it's food for thought.
