What to do with a connection

So I made a connection with an alumni from my school doing exactly what I want to do (M&A tax). He reached out to me to get breakfast and lunch and told me straight up he wants me on his team but to be patient. This was in July, I am about to graduate and he has texted me to congratulate me on my CPA exam scores and whatnot but never mentions bringing me onto the team. I even asked him twice what the outlook was and he would just ignore that message and talk about the exam scores. Do you think he’s still considering bringing me onto the team? Ik y’all can’t read someone’s mind or predict the future but why wouldn’t he just tell me straight up what the deal is?
