Where does my STEM experience get valued the most?
I am graduating next year and considering applying for quant jobs. However, "quant" (as you know) is too generic for me with little financial background.
I focused on studies on signal processing and statistics. I mainly worked on maximum-likelihood estimations, regularized quadratic programming, Monte Carlo (a lot), Fourier transform. I am also involved in other projects such as nonparametric fitting, PCA and computer visions, I have good knowledge of them, but did not play leading roles in those projects. On a day-to-day basis I used a lot of C++ and MATLAB. I had some experience with Java/Python etc, but will hopefully not use them for interviews. Besides those I also have experience in hardware development, but that is probably irrelevant.
I am hoping to get some advice: what companies (e.g. IB, HF, PE. etc) would mostly value my experience? Also, what job types should I focus on (such as researcher, dev, analyst)?
Thank you!
Quant departments in IB, prop trading firms, analytics in consulting.
Thank you for your reply! Is HF's bar too high for me (no finance background) though?
