Where to read and learn more about different sectors
Hi, Going into college soon for a bba in finance. I often hear people telling others, to go read about what’s happening in their sector/group. Where can I go get more information? Like if I was interested in O&G, where would I go to read about relevant deals and whatnot?
I would highly recommend checking out corporate + private equity annual reports on Bain's website. They do one every year for the major industries. Easy reads IMO to understand macrotrends. They do discuss major deals and discuss rationale behind the deals as well.
Awesome thank you for the info
If you are talking specific IB, I would go to certain banks you find interesting and find deals they did, then find 3 news articles on that specific deal and rinse and repeat for the industry you are interested in. It can help you identify trends in recent deals within that industry and will set you up super well for when you get asked to talk about a deal at the firm or why this industry. I recently interviewed for a capital markets role in ECM/DCM/LevFin and did a ton of research on recent transactions the firm that I interviewed with completed with that specific product.
This might sound stupid, but how do you scout out which banks to apply for? I think there is a decent amount of OCR at my school, but wondering how I will find non name brand banks, such as smaller boutiques.
Yuh
