Working in Private Placements and M&A
Hello I am a person who recently graduated from Texas A&M university and I am interested in working in either the M&A or Private Placements industry. What licenses do you need to get to work in Private Placements or M&A. I want to maybe launch my own shop!
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some key points regarding the licenses you might need to work in Private Placements or M&A:
Series 7 License: This is often required for individuals who want to work as general securities representatives. It allows you to sell a broad range of securities, including stocks, bonds, and other investment products.
Series 79 License: Specifically tailored for investment banking professionals, this license is essential for those involved in advising on or facilitating mergers and acquisitions, tender offers, financial restructurings, and asset sales.
Series 63 License: This is required in most states to sell securities and is often taken in conjunction with the Series 7 or Series 79.
Series 24 License: If you plan to supervise or manage other brokers, this principal-level license is necessary. It allows you to oversee the activities of a broker-dealer.
For launching your own shop, you might also consider:
Series 82 License: This is for private securities offerings and might be relevant if you are focusing on private placements.
Series 65 or 66 License: These are for investment advisor representatives and might be necessary if you plan to provide investment advice as part of your services.
