Wrong Firm Name in Networking Email

Hi,

I know this is not something I can really change now, but I put the wrong firm name in a follow-up email to a person who works at JPM, but I put the correct firm name in the first email I've sent to them. I didn't get a response at all from them, but I'm not sure if I'll get dinged or not because of this, since I've heard that JPM has started to move away from networking as part of the application process, and I'm not aware if traders will reach out to HR to blacklist me over something like this.

Is the best thing to do just to not do anything? Or should I reach out and apologize for putting the wrong firm name? Thanks for the tips, know that I need to proofread better for next time as well.

Hi bro -

They ought to just blacklist you. Imagine you quoted a price for PIMCO and you copied and pasted that price incorrectly to your citadel chat. The spivs just picked you off bro. -EV, money lost. Try another bank bro. Read your emails more than once bro.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, the best course of action here is to avoid drawing further attention to the mistake. Reaching out to apologize for the error might only highlight it more, which could be counterproductive. Instead, focus on improving your approach moving forward. Proofreading and double-checking details in your emails is critical to avoid such errors in the future.

As for the concern about being "dinged" or blacklisted, it's unlikely that a single mistake like this would lead to such consequences, especially if JPM is moving away from networking as a key part of the application process. Traders or professionals are generally busy and may not escalate such minor issues to HR.

For now, let it go and focus on crafting more targeted and error-free emails in your future networking efforts. If you don't hear back, consider reaching out to other contacts at the firm or in the industry. Keep refining your process and don't let this discourage you!
