Wtf is wrong with me
Just had a pretty decent interview for a PE firm I was excited about, but oh wait I bombed the simplest technicals I’ve ever been asked. I can’t even justify my performance. It was like my brain gave out and I strung together words coming to me from a distant dream. The interviewer humored me I think or didn’t want to let on how shocked he was that someone a few YEARS into their IB stint is not rock solid on basic analyst techs…. Yea I guess advice or whatever would be appreciated. I think I’m just mega sleep deprived and sick and need to go to bed
Go to bed and sleep it off soldier, for tomorrow you will get up and find something better in your future
hey man/sis, had a similar experience. Literally my dream firm, have talked to multiple people and HH said they LOVED me up to this point. Bombed the simplest sources and uses and never heard back. Life goes on and there’ll be other opps. Keep your head up!!!
Thanks fam but you know f the sick and tired excuse, I feel like I’m brain dead and should just find another career
It happens to everyone and you will
get over it as time goes on. Try not to
be to hard on yourself but it is a terrible feeling tho.
I once screwed up an easy mental math problem for a Sales and Trading job I really wanted. Interviews are stressful and that can make it hard to think strait.
Shit happens, king. If you're not failing, you're not trying. F* them haters and carry on. Rome wasn't built in a day. The greatest men in history were the ones that faced the harshest defeats at some points in their lives. Now get up and make your mother proud, soldier!
Thank u but I am a woman…I like the sentiment tho
Not to be perceived as inappropriate, I'm genuinely curious. Do you think your performance might have been related to your cycle?
If it makes you feel better, I work at a MF and the same thing happened to me...more than once. I've gotten asked some incredibly niche questions from the BIWS 400 Qs and there was no reason for me to know them. I remember after an interview I bombed I went and asked my VP (who knew I was in a process) some of the questions and also got them wrong.
I wish they would just give you a modeling testing upfront.
I'm not great at interviewing - my mind completely blanks. I've found the best strategy for me is to convince myself I don't really care. Might sound counterintuitive but that's the only thing that reduces my nerves and helps me clear my head a bit.
Do you guys have actionable advice on how to be kinder to yourself? Bc I’ll be the first to admit…I can really tear myself apart over the smallest things
I do the same mate, anytime If I don't perform on the highest levels on everything i do, be it work related or gym or day to day, it hits me mentally. It comes from being ambitious and wanting to win. Use it in your favour. Use it to become better prepared, improve your confidence, and be sure you are able to excel and achieve your proposed targets. Otherwise, it will only work in your detriment and make you feel bad about yourself. Any frustration can be changed into ambition and confidence. Make it work for you!
