You guys ever take long-shots at job applications?
You know... the ones you're not even close to qualified for, but damn it looked good, and wouldn't it be perfect to work there? What's the craziest interview you've landed?

Was interviewing for a top tier VC a few months ago.. I wouldn't say I wasn't close to qualified, but I was definitely not a stand-out applicant. I come from a no-name school, and I have no brand name firms on my resume. I cold-emailed the managing partner, got a meeting with him, and flew in to interview on my own dime.

Sadly, sometimes hustle isn't enough. After the final interview, I received a message from HR saying "sorry, but the investment team is full".

That was quite a blow to the ego, and I was super pissed (mostly at myself). Picked myself up, applied to multiple firms, and then landed a gig at a top regional PE. I still like the VC space, and would be open to lateraling to a top firm, but I'd like to try PE out before finally deciding.

Nice. Well done.
I will DM you. Sounds like you've got some advice I can learn from.

Worked in a telecoms VC team and a top-tier tech company from the Silicon Valley had a recruiter where, due to summer holidays, most candidates dropped out or weren't available. Got a call whether I might be interested in an interview slot THE SAME DAY (like, within 3 hours). Went in without prep and actually got a job offer the same day.

Even when I started I couldn't believe I actually landed that job. Stayed for a year and then went back into banking/finance.

Wow, goals right here lol (I'm a sophomore with sub 3.0), how many copies did you send out and how many interviews came from it?
