Hey - LSE masters student, no work experience
Hi WSO, new member here,
I recently graduated from a target university in the UK (1st class honours), and am now pursuing a finance related masters at LSE from September.
While my academics are thus not much of a problem, this has come at the price of not putting sufficient effort into finding internships or graduate jobs, and thus have no internship over the summer. Instead, I am preparing for next years cycle, using this forum among many other things.
I am interested as to how a candidate with my profile best pursues a career in IB/corporate finance/risk management, since a lot seems to hinge on work experience I do not have. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Does your program allow you to work part-time during the school year? If so, I would recommend it.
Hi JYFresh, It is allowed to work part-time, but I seriously doubt I could shoulder both a degree and part-time work, since the masters condensed into a 12-month course. In this application cycle would you suggest applying for internships or graduate jobs?
I would vouch for this too. Your academics are obviously in place, so your top priority should be gaining experience from something more tangible. If you're unable to part-time work, then join a finance group or engage in some other EC project.
Well in that case I would suggest looking into clubs or profs that allow you to do mini-projects and anything that showcases your practical skills. Get in touch with former students and profs to see what opportunities may be available. Best of luck.

"work part time", what a rubbish advice. Apart from an internship at a bank WHILE you study (I had a friend who did his at GS while doing the MSc in A&F at the LSE), no part time work will actually be of any use to you.
Go to every single career events at the school. Every bank is represented there. Network your guts out. Beny is right - your alumni network is beyond good. Milk it. Also your exams are all at the end of the year, so no need to give the "I need to focus on studying for my master" bull shit. You have 4 months from Sep to Dec to find a job - everyone is aware of this at the LSE and does not expect you to do any actual class work in that time.
If you still can't find any job with LSE on your resume and with the networking opportunities it gives you, maybe you weren't meant to work in banking after all.
