3yr Analyst - This Job is Finally Starting to Kick My Ass. How the fuck do I counter.

Alright I'm not known to be a pussy but I'm starting to fucking turn into one real quick.

I work in a well known PE firm in DC so usually the work-life balance ain't too bad, at least not bad compared to my investment banking counterparts in NYC. For the last 3 years I've taken quite a few all nighters and have been working my ass off ever since - no real problems other than catching a cold from the office AC at 4am due to a fucked up immune system from stress, from time to time.

But THIS MONTH...oh man. Just this week I didn't sleep Monday and Tuesday (no problem. Easily done 24-48 hrs no sleep before). Got in a 4 hr nap Wednesday, then been up grinding since then. It's now Thursday. Get off the phone and FUCKING BAMM, I get this piercing headache out of nowhere - been on for a couple hours now. I sit down right under the AC fan for 15 minutes and BAMM - also got a ridiculous tooth ache, half my mouth is swollen and when I press on my swollen gums with my hand, I get a shit load of mucous in my mouth - another sign of catching a cold. I've been taking my vitamins, i'm pretty active, i dont smoke or do drugs, i eat pretty healthy but none of that shit is working. I can't even talk to a client on the phone with a straight voice cause it's one of those toothaches that resonate through your entire head. Pain killers dont work AT ALL. This shit's been going on every week this and last month. If it keeps going, it's gonna seriously affect my job performance.

Are there any fucking solutions to this? Feels like a knife through my head and another knife through my teeth. Not sure how I did it 2 years ago but I don't think I can keep this up anymore. Unless I find a solution quick.

Pray to god you don't die lol

Baby you're the perfect shape, baby you're the perfect weight. Treat me like my birthday, I want it this way and I want it that way. It makes a man feel good baby.

adderall, 3 advil and lots of water is my go-to. but that's after a night of drinking, have only been FT for 7 weeks now. you sound like you're in bad shape my brother, I'd honestly talk to a boss. If you've been there for 3 years busting your ass, they'll understand.

I was taught that the human brain was the crowning glory of evolution so far, but I think it's a very poor scheme for survival.

Agreed, talk with your boss.

Your body is not really designed for what you are doing to it. It's not about being a pussy, that's just biology. If you don't sleep enough and drive too hard for too long (YEARS), eventually you will physically burn out and weird shit starts to happen to you. I work with someone that thought he developed arthritis in the 18 months post-Lehman because all we did was work 18 hours a day to capture the upside in the market and it fucking burned him out. The market chilled out and he started working less and his symptoms magically went way. Personally, I haven't had anything too bad but I sometimes get insomnia after a pretty intense bender.

The solution is to cut back a bit and recover your health. Trust me, once you get older, you will realize that killing yourself for a job is not worth it.

I've taken advil before after starting to catch a cold from sleep deprivation. Wasn't like a miracle worker tho. I think the best advice here is to talk to your boss and ease up on your workload a little. Personally, I've never done two allnighters in a row before

You need to go to the dentist. Show your associate/staffer/whatever your fucked up face and say 'Bro, I need to go to the doctor' he will probably agree.
