Open container while on the street walking or driving?

Sitting on a bench

Oh damn. I don't know what your state is, but I would make sure it is not a misdemeanor. If it is a misdemeanor, lawyer up and get that dropped. If you just pay the fine, you're pleading guilty.

I think it is the same level as a speeding ticket.

Open container in most states while driving is a criminal misdemeanor.

"A violation of New Jersey’s open container law is considered a traffic violation. A conviction means a fine of $200, but no points. Subsequent offenses can cost as much as $250 and result in up to 10 days of community service. Since the offense is not a crime, it will not result in a criminal record. However, it will appear on one’s driving record."

I’ve never heard of this term before, are there any workarounds? Like putting lid onto booze after drinking, paper bag, drinking at home etc
