Oh damn. I don't know what your state is, but I would make sure it is not a misdemeanor. If it is a misdemeanor, lawyer up and get that dropped. If you just pay the fine, you're pleading guilty.
What state was it? I'm surprised you would even have to go to court. However, it almost certainly will not impact you. I think it is the same level as a speeding ticket.

"A violation of New Jersey’s open container law is considered a traffic violation. A conviction means a fine of $200, but no points. Subsequent offenses can cost as much as $250 and result in up to 10 days of community service. Since the offense is not a crime, it will not result in a criminal record. However, it will appear on one’s driving record."
I’ve never heard of this term before, are there any workarounds? Like putting lid onto booze after drinking, paper bag, drinking at home etc
