Any Cyclists on here?
Saw someone made a topic on bikers, so I wanted one on cyclists. I was out for a 30 mile ride in central park on Sunday and saw lots of like-minded individuals. Great exercise, builds more muscle than running.

I’ve wanted to get into it for years now, but it just seems like a good bike workout is a huge time commitment (multiple hours?). Seems nicer on the body than running, though, and you can see more interesting scenery, so I’d like to get a road bike at some point.
I'd recommend just doing it. I've always enjoyed cycling, but just recently I went out and got an actual higher quality road bike and it has been worth every penny. All the gear will cost you up front, but it's definitely not your average huffy anymore.
Paging @Isaiah_53_5"
lol
whatssss uppppp
I did a 56 mile ride in New Orleans this past Sunday. It was windy. It was supposed to be a 70.3, but they cut the swim in half as it looked like a hurricane hit the waters. Emergency boats couldn't hold position. Played Beau Rivage on the way there and back, both tourneys, 6th and 2nd for a couple hundred. Then last night Best Bet $110 101XL Main Event Live Streamed for $4,200 1st place prize but didn't even cash last night in Jacksonville. I sat next to a WPT chick that goes from WPT event to event and was good to meet her as we got along well and I'm looking to maybe increase my stakes next year and spend more money on bigger tournaments and less time at these smaller ones though.
Its difficult for me though, because I have fun at these games and like stopping by the casino for a tourney for fun. But noticed this time especially that I was a bit out of place and need to test the waters in higher limits, which means that a trip to the casino is not just 'a stop along the way' to go snowboarding or something, its ... the trip to the casino with flights anddd there's a mountain nearby with shitty conditions so might as well ride.
Yesterday, I cycled Pensacola Beach for a warmup, which was really nice. I have a video from the front cam. I was doing jumps off the speed bumps on my carbon fiber bike - lol.
Sunday
I've been into road and TT for a couple of years now, and just recently started getting into MTB. Love it.
I have a generic REI bike that I use for commuting. Only 12mi RT so it's a nice easy ride, except for one huge hill that sucks ass.
Big cyclist here. Currently have Trek Speed Concept for Triathlons, Giant Propel SL and Trek Madone (project one) for road. It's great. Just got the Dura-Ace power meter which is a game changer for training.
Sad part of the season starts now, as I enter the pain cave every night for an hour or two. For those looking for structured training, I highly recommend TrainerRoad.
Just bought a Madone and love it.
Always wanted to get into it but seems like death waiting to happen with all the distracted/horrendous driving on the road.
Plenty of paths, especially in NYC. Can also head out to CT/NJ. If you go early mornings it isn't awful either.
I commuted on a bike 30 min each way for 3 years year-round while we had no car and then while we only had one car (gave it to my wife). So I'm pretty set on city biking for life. It would be really fun to get into mountain biking in some dope nature shit though. I'd have a lot of fun with that. Some nice music in the earbuds and a nice bike with some cushy suspension blasting down some forest mountains. We also might get a tandem bike and ride around the park in matching burgundy Adidas tracksuits.
Anyone train for the Little 500?
Great movie!
It’s a real thing they do every year too if you didn’t know.
Training right now haha
Sunday 56 mi:
I agree with you on this, mainly because of how our body responds to movement and how the two largest muscular systems greatly influence the endocrine system, and production of T, which is a major factor in muscle growth.
The quads are the second biggest muscles in the body. If you're a cyclist, your quads are like steel. Eating low leg kicks in Muay Thai doesn't even hurt that much anymore. Its great to be able to workout the quads and get the benefits of their interaction with the endocrine system in an environment like cycling. Some think quads are developed on the weight rack, but I feel quads are developed on the stairs and on the bike.
I was thinking of T on cyclists vs bodybuilders a minute ago. Body weight exercises tend to result in a greater boost of natural T. The bike is much closer to pushing body weight in a certain way than the heavy heavy weights on top athletes going ass to grass. Those bodybuilders have to force T in their body, which is not natural and damages the organs, so they take more supplements to avoid damage to the organs or something. It goes on and on.
Cyclists basically eat whatever they want and don't have any need for all of that except for the racers who want to take the HGH and all that jazz (I forget all the names/drugs), but I read the book and just question how so many people could be so immoral at the same time across several company lines. I just don't know what I would do if I trained with a team where they all made the decision to go that way and if I didn't agree I couldn't keep up. Would be tough. I hope I would stay natty though.... riiiight?
It is because cycling is more anaraobic and running is more aerobic, at least how most people do it. If you throw in 100m sprints in your running your quads will grow, look at rugby players legs.
Seeing all the Goldman Bros on Factor and Cervelos
Canyon bikes are sick too
Been doing 30+ mile rides regularly from SF to random places in Marin and such. So much fun and a great way to try new restaurants / avoid drinking too much the night before
I typically bike about 5 miles each day to the office in spring and summer. In autumn and winter I typically use my peloton indoors
Yeah I love my indoor bike setup. I use Zwift and a Wahoo Kickr Core direct drive trainer.
