Anyone else bored of their iPhone?
Ive got the iPhone 5 and its a really good phone, but its just been the same thing for the past 3 years basically (OS). I'm considering getting the Galaxy s4 when its released. Specs are good and the Android OS is making improvement... Only thing I'm wondering about is the size. 5 inches is pretty big for a phone. Anyone else jump ship due to curiosity/boredom? Did you come running back
got the iphone 5 a few months ago after using crackberry for 2+ years. best decision ive ever made. coincidentally enough, my dad was due for an upgrade at the same time and got a galaxy s3. the specs on that thing are beastly but the phone is way too big for me. now i may be different since i have only had the iphone for a few months, so i can see how people can get bored of the outdated iOS interface, however this simplicity of the interface is whats keeping the iPhone going. its simple yet still very sexy and its ecosystem is unmatched.

Only old people who want to be young, females who want to fit in, and hipsters use iphones. Go with Android. I'm eyeing the Galaxy S4 myself
In my experience, I've found that people with iPhones tend to have their heads screwed on a little tighter as well.
Nail on the head with that one. This little trendy hipster thing has shifted away from Apple over to Samsung now. They are the ones that are being fooled into buying the Galaxy S3/S4 because it's the hot thing right now. iPhones are truly the better phone. More reliable. And if you rock the 5 without a cover, the thing is gorgeous. Galaxy phones are fool of gimmicks that don't enhance the reliability, they just kill battery.
I hope this thread won't drift into a "Apple vs. Samsung" discussion.

Ok guys, here's the thing. Yes, Apple's operating system has remained stagnant over the past few years. But iOS 6 can be pretty cool if you're not an old person and know how to properly utilize all of the features. The one thing that separates Apple from Android for me: DATA-UTILIZED text messaging. iMessage is free for all iPhone users. And you can use it WTHOUT cell phone signal. I can be in the basement classroom of a building with "No Service" but still be texting away through the wifi. Android cannot do that with their regular SMS text service. Third-party apps are required for that capability. Thus, Apple wins. The iPhone 5 is a step up from previous models on the hardware as well; it's gorgeous. And it has an A6 chip that is insanely fast. Oh, and by the way, I think anyone with a brain knows to stay away from blackberry and windows phones.

You have to remember..all these "gimmick" features you mention isn't really Android, but Samsung. Stock Android is great and I think they way Samsung, HTC etc skin it is awful. I understand they try to differentiate from each other and attrach customers but I really think it messes with the great OS Google has going
Yes but Gtalk is a 3rd party app. Not everyone has it. If you have an iPhone, you have iMessage. Google needs to find a way to have free, data-utilized messaging for all Android users without having to download an app.
I have an Android phone (Galaxy 3), an iPhone 5, and a Nokia Lumia 920.
I prefer the Lumia and the Windows Phone 8 OS. Breath of fresh air compared to iOS and Android.
I"ll likely play around and use the new blackberry when it comes out, but current reviews don't seem that great.
Only reason I have an iphone is because I use it to test my iphone apps....i have an android as well and i much prefer the android. iphones are overpriced and overrated.
I have an iphone and I only use it because it's more reliable. I can only speak to my friends' experiences with Android, but their Galaxy S3s freeze/crash all the time, and their battery lives are horrendous (maybe newer Androids are better or maybe my friends just got bad ones/are dumb with their usage). Sure, the Galaxy has cool features, but all of those features and that gigantic screen come at the price of lower battery life. Furthermore, even though some of the features are cool, I never have the need for 90% of them. A big one I can think of is this new "eye scrolling" thing or whatever it is. Cool in theory, but I think I can manage scrolling using my fingers just fine and have absolutely no need for it from a practical standpoint (only way I can ever think of using it is if it's cold outside and I don't want to take off my glove or something).
With that said, my next purchase will probably be the new Lumia if it gets more apps on it. It's a good size (bigger than iphone, but not gigantic like the Galaxy phones) and has a lot of cool, practical features (for example, being able to use the phone without taking off my gloves) that will never get press. It's UI is also a bit different from the typical Android/iOS stuff and I think it looks pretty cool personally. Windows will never catch on though I don't think.
Absolutely right that Galaxy S3s crash all the time. When are people going to catch on to that? All of Androids "cool" features are so gimmicky. From the live wallpaper (another battery killer) to the little "touch phones to transfer data" thing to those stupid little commercials with the people standing in the Apple lines. I feel like the culture has almost reversed from those commercials, where the Android people have now become the gullible suckers and the Apple people are the ones who are not going with what's trendy. But dude, do not go for a Nokia Lumia. Sure, it looks cool, but IT'S SUPPOSED TO LOOK COOL. Just like every piece of technology on the market. Windows mobile OS is cool but there are NO apps. You may as well stay with Apple until Nokia and Windows can gain a little speed in the app game.
Note 2. Bigger is better.
@Steedz: I'm not planning on switching to Windows anytime soon. I just got my phone 4-6 months ago and I tend to ride out my phone till it becomes so slow and unusable that I have to switch. By the next time I upgrade (hopefully another 2 years, but it may be less given that no phone has lasted me as long as my original iPhone 1 did), Windows should have more apps, so it might be a viable switch, especially since other companies, like Samsung, are beginning to make products with Windows OS nowadays.
I had the iphone 5. I jumped ship for the Galaxy Note 2. Apple is really gonna have to come up with something innovative to get my business in the smart phone market.

Android phones might be far more powerful and impressive stat-wise, but for status signaling (which most people on a finance forum probably care a lot about), the iPhone is the way to go. Android is for nerds and old people.
Yes, it's good for status signaling, which is why many poor working or non-working people have one.

gtalk is stock on android i think, but i've only used nexus devices, so it might be different for other manufacturers.
the thing about android is, it's honestly only useful for nerds and old people like holla_back said.
i'm a geek who like flashing new roms and always has to be on the bleeding edge of tech. if you're not that saavy, it really defeats the purpose of having a phone like a s4. the specs on it might be ridiculous, but 99% of users won't be utilizing those specs.

I've had every iPhone except for the 4 and am starting to get bored. Not that it's a bad phone...I just want to try something different. Have been eyeing the new Blackberry Z10 - anyone have one or know someone who does? Curious about whether many people in IB use it or not.
I've been on here for days talking about how much better the iPhone is. But something happened yesterday. I took a rare trip into an Apple store (rare because we all know how big of a goatfuck Apple stores are) and I did a side-by-side comparison of my 3GS (which is the third of the six generations) to a brand new iPhone 5. It really is amazing how in more than half a decade, the iPhone hasn't really gotten any cooler at all. My 3GS is iOS 6 compatible, so as long as it runs the latest software, there's really not a huge reason to upgrade the hardware. Those things are so fragile anyway. I may hold out as long as I can and just pray that Apple grows some balls and puts something out this year that's worth spending the money on.

Hahahahahha very good point. Without retina display, the screen looks like something from 1999. I'm just a cheap ass motherfucker who has had it forever and won't upgrade because it's the oldest model that is still iOS 6 compatible.
As far as software goes, the only thing it doesn't have is Siri. As for the hardware, there is no retina display, the camera sucks, it's not as thin, and it doesn't have the processing power of the A4, A5, and A6 chips that the 4, 4S, and 5 have, respectively.
As long as it runs the latest software, there is no point to upgrade to a 4 or a 4S with a two-year contract because Apple would make sure I was raped in the ass by the obsolescence factor within a matter of months. Yes the 3GS is beyond obsolete, but I can ditch it at any time because I'm up for an upgrade. And there is no point in dropping $200 on the 5 as my side-by-side comparison above explains.
Have you considered the BBRY Z10 at all? I'm on the fence coming from an iPhone 5.
I'm kind of bored of my 4S but droid makers can't seem to fix simple things like scroll lag, ugly font and ugly design. The iPhone just feels like a higher quality phone (even if it was made by chinese slaves) and the galaxy s4 is too big, especially when you also have a BB for work. And yes only the few nerds (ex: engineering degrees) at my firm have a droid, rest have iphone
Apple's OS integration requires signing up to nine accounts with different vendors on Samsung. This causes the phone to lag and timeout, one thing that I absolutely cannot stand. Yes, the OS gets a little boring after a while, but that is what customization apps are for.
True but unfortunately from what I've heard, the iPhone 5S won't be much different than the 5!

I feel like cell phone covers are becoming a thing of the past. They make your phone look disgusting, and they hide the work that goes into these beautiful designs. The Galaxy S4 and the iPhone 5 are two of the sexiest pieces of technology ever built. Whatever you have, go naked. Oh, and if you get super bored of iOS 6, just jailbreak the damn thing, void the warranty (nothing wrong with that), and have yourself a time.
I do agree. Though I always put a case and screen protector on the minute I get a phone, I like to keep it mint
