Anyone else here enjoy arguing with randoms on the internet?
Okay somewhat wild fact: My prime entertainment after my 9-to-5 is essentially making make believe throwdowns on internet forums, then joyously jumping into verbal wrestling matches in the comment section. If it's crickets out there, no worries—I'm totally fine arguing with myself. Honestly, I've probably spent a solid 90% of my leisure time on this since rocking the analyst title back in '10, and I'm still scratching my head about why. Any other souls caught in this hobby?
What’s the point of being able to comment if it isn’t to argue with randoms lol
Forum has gone to sh*t since 2020 lol
Agreed
IDK 2021-22 were kind of fun. Comp increases across the board, loose hiring that lead to an influx of imo funny post and shit. I know a lot of juniors felt unstoppable.
Ah, the art of the online debate! It's like a modern gladiator arena where words are your weapons, and the comment section is your Colosseum. While the context I'm familiar with doesn't specifically mention enjoying arguments with randoms on the internet as a hobby, it does touch on the topic of online discussions and the presence of trolls in forums.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, engaging in discussions can be a double-edged sword. On one side, it's a fantastic way to exchange ideas, challenge your thinking, and even sharpen your argumentative skills. On the other, it's easy to stumble upon trolls whose main aim is to provoke rather than engage in meaningful conversation.
The key takeaway from the WSO threads is the importance of distinguishing between a genuine discussion and a troll post. Engaging in the former can be intellectually stimulating and rewarding, while the latter is often a fruitless endeavor that only leads to frustration.
So, if you find joy in the throes of a good debate, more power to you! Just remember to pick your battles wisely, especially in the vast and wild world of internet forums. Who knows, maybe your next online throwdown could lead to a breakthrough idea or a new perspective rather than just a way to pass the time.
That’s pretty much what I do to entertain myself at work.
This place is fun to do a mix of troll and real advice, but the issue is with this place is that there is only so much I can do to antagonize, since the main user is a white, male who is in his twenties and comes from middle class background. So my only real ammo is mostly pointing out how awful Trump is, denigrating their humble family life or simply mentioning cool stuff in my life and speaking down to them.
The real troll goldmine is Reddit. I finally had my main account perma banned. I pretty much gett banned from a sub Reddit every other day over there. I made my new account there similar name to the one here.
Some funny reasons for my temp bans and then my perma ban.
Banned for three days because I said that no sane man would ever physically prefer a fatty to a skinny, athletic chick. Maybe mentally but never physically. Banned three days for being fat phobic lol.
Banned one week for claiming poor people shouldn’t have more than one kid or have kids out of wedlock.
Banned 3 days for saying only a desperate man or woman would ever date or marry someone who already had kids, and dating someone with kids is baggage no one needs.
Banned two weeks from the site for saying someone was a moron for accepting her cheating husband back and then being shocked he cheated again. And how woman always seem to hate the other woman and never their husband.
Finally for perma banned, for what I think was actually my least egregious comment, where someone posted an article about some guy in with America who shot some liberal protestors for blocking the road and inconveniencing his ride home.
I basically said violence is never right, but these protesters should have known that if they keep f*cking with normal people, eventually they are going to try the wrong person and get owned. So it’s their fault for putting themselves in harms way but antagonizing random people.
Apparently Reddit thinks that comment is encouraging or good thing violence or some nonsense. Meanwhile they let Epstein and his female side kick act as power mods with no repercussions for years.
I swear these Reddit mods are such losers, that they get drunk on this little power they have. The remind of the losers who work at airline counters, and love refusing people on flights for no good reason.
One of the things I loved to do was troll people asking money questions, where they would ask for advice or question how another user was rich. And I would detail my salary and savings and all that crap and really speak arrogantly. And when they would finally say, and they always this, that I was LARPing and no one wealthy would spend time arguing with them, I would link them to a sub where you have to be verified rich ti post, like the FatFIRE sub, and then would either block me or call me some terrible names.
Trolling is cheaper than therapy and makes me feel as good as when I do after a hard workout. The ultimate endorphin rush for me is lifting weights and trolling between sets!
Classic, I love it. Big fan of your trolling on here.
Skankhunt42 vibes
I remember him. I wonder if he just stopped using WSO or he comments under a different name. I don't think the OP is the same guy.
If you are having that much trouble on Reddit, you should spend less time on it.
I think you need to find a new hobby if you are spending 90% of your leisure time arguing with randos. I like to have conversations with people in similar industries about related or non related topics but the convo would end for me if person starts acting like a keyboard warrior.
Haha I do this all the time. Mostly on twitter. I've built up a niche following for my takes which are often unhinged to the normal person. It's fun and sometimes you actually get cool dialogue out of it. Best part is people assuming that people in our industry or of our income wouldn't do something like bicker with randoms online and start projecting on you about being some broke loser living in your mom's basement. It's probably not 90% of my leisure time, I play CoD with my friends at night and go to the gym ~5 days a week, but I'm def shitposting between things on many days.
As I mentioned above, the same thing happens to me and I love it.
I basically figure out what controversial side to take, and then staunchly defend that position. But I always take a really derisive and condescending tone and weave in my real life.
And invariably they start saying that there is no way in hell an Ivy League investment banker worth a couple million would spend his free time putting down random people on the internet. And then I’ve done things like link them to a sub where you need to show the mods you’re rich to get verified like the fatfire sub, or a few times I posted screenshots of my diploma with my username next to it to prove my degrees.
When they start to realize I’m not lying about my life they get ever more pissed lol. It really makes the train ride home fly by these days.
Late reply but that's hilarious haha. Be careful with some of the proof posting and stuff, don't wanna get doxxed. Especially if you're linking to reddit, people can see post history and start to put shit together.
Yeah once in a while. Sometimes it's fun just being combative
I only argue with like-minded people to get to the truth of the matter, so I focus on the message and not the person which tends to be productive - either he enlightens me or either it's like an intellectual game where you have to put your brain at use to think critically. win-win.
Nah who spends that much time online
I'm white, but otherwise that's literally an exact pic of me.
