Has anyone here ever invested in a gym? Could be one you opened yourself or a franchise model? If so, how'd that go for you? I'd imagine gyms aren't super profitable and are probably labor intensive or else more people would own them, but I could be wrong. Anyone insight would be great, thanks.

My former neighbor started a gym. He was working for Orange Theory in CO and then moved to SC and started his own gym here and is doing pretty well:

That's sweet. I was talking more commercial gym type. These more crossfit/OT type gyms are probably a pretty cool environment to work in, but probably require a lot of work on the back end. Kinda feel its a lot about building a culture as well too.
Interesting, how much do you think this gym makes per year?
a guy I went to high school with got really into CrossFit and ended up opening up his own place. It seems more like a lifestyle than a job. He seems like he's doing OK, but I imagine that it's brutal on a pay-per hour basis. I imagine it's the definition of the saying "if you love what you do then you never work an hour in your life." Personally, I go to the gym kicking and screaming every morning, so it's not for me.
Kicking and screaming seems on par with a regular Muay Thai session - haha
That actually sounds a lot more fun than my normal 45 minutes on the elliptical.
Imagine the hours are not great but if you're passionate about fitness and it's got a theme beyond 'weights and cardio' like a regular Gold's, could be interesting
