Are the Conditions at Foxconn Worse than Other Factories

This recently published article about Foxconn alleges

"Amazon's profits have come at the expense of workers who labor in appalling working conditions and have no choice but to work excessive overtime hours to sustain a livelihood."

There is a lot of uproar about the suggested outrageous conditions. But at the same time, Foxconn is the largest contract maker of electronics in the world and I'd think they would be under the most scrutiny. I'm thinking back to their suicide waves when they were making Apple products a few years ago/what is in the news about them now and wondering whether the conditions in their factories are better/worse than other large manufacturing companies both in China and in other parts of the world. Also wondering if their employees are as dissatisfied as articles claim.

This article from 2010 (highest Foxconn suicide year says that 14 of their 1,000,000 workers committed suicide. So 1.4 per 100,000. Those are meager numbers when compared to the suicide rate at colleges in the US of 7.5 per 100,000.

Lastly, who goes through more mental trauma? US college students or Foxconn workers?
