Dan Loeb's Investor Letter: activist investors the good guys?
Post By @Kobe123358"

With the completion of its 20th year of investing with annualized returns of about 20.5%, Third Point LLC founder and CEO Dan Loeb, defended modern activist investing in his newly released investor letter. Do his comments change the perception of the often criticized world of activist investing at all?

What do you love and hate most about working in IB?
Post By @CMoore0520"

Just curious, what do you all love and hate the most about working in investment banking? I'm referring to tasks, not hours or people or anything like that.

I'll start. I love modeling. I really hate filing/tracking company records for compliance. I imagine that's not something a lot of the bigger bank analysts do..

//www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/breaking-ft-ib-contract-for-hf
Post By @johnnyboy1987"

My question is, how frowned upon is leaving after 8 months and "breaking the contract", in light of early banking exits being increasingly common on the street these days? How much could leaving after 8 months potentially stain my name / reputation and burn bridges? I have built good will within my group this summer and am liked by all, but surely I cannot come forward with my plans to exit the BB a few months into my analyst program, right?

TLDR: Is taking the BB offer and breaking contract 1st year for HF worth it from a risk / reward standpoint?

Consulting vs Tech Industry career
Post By @Olexa"

Looking for impartial career advice for a 24 yo needing to make a big life decision in the next couple of months.

Options I am considering:

1.Stategy consulting in the City at a 2nd tier or specialised analytics/big data consulting. Realising it will be hard to make it to and survive at>MBB. Possibly exiting to industry/PE after 2-3 years

2.Corporate strategy / business/financial analytics at Google/Amazon EMEA HQs in Ireland

What pros/cons of each option can you see?

Gap year Transitioning from Army to MBA program
Post By @jboog"

I've decided to put my UQR (resignation) in to leave the military, and due to the MBA application cycle I'm not particularly set up well for Schools starting in '16 as I still need to study and crush the GMAT which means at the earliest I'm applying in Round 2, which I know significantly reduces my chances at a lot of the top schools. On the other hand, since I'll be leaving sometime early spring/summer next year, I'll have over a year before I start an MBA in '17.

Can I take a year off and travel the world without hurting my chances of getting into an M7 school? Anyone been in a similar position, and if so, what did you do?

What is the most clever, profitable RE deal you've witnessed?
Post By @passiveincome"

I love hearing about clever strategies developers and investors have employed, especially value-add deals and repositioning of previously underutilized properties!
