New Dell XPS17 - has much better specs. However I use my laptop for video editing and sometimes a little bit gaming too. If you dont need that just go for an inexpensive model around 800€ that should always be enough for Microsoft office

I bought the Lenovo E14 with an Ryzen 5 processor. Thing runs like a champ - and I paid just under $800 i believe. I live and die by the Lenovo computers - not sure how you feel about them, especially if you already use one for work.

But I'm happy with it so far. Had it for 5 months or so and use it all the time. Running 15+ chrome tabs, Office suite, spotify, no problems.

Before this I had the Gen 3 X1 Carbon. Used that all through college until the screen crapped out on me after 4ish years.

Go all the way

The new M1 chip Macbook Pro.

You're getting almost 2-3x the battery life of a comparable laptop (SIXTEEN hours of real world usage) with better/equal performance than windows laptops.

Tight integration with other Apple devices, (subjectively) much better UX overall.

Only downside is you can't play PC-only games. But this is a laptop anyway and you should have a gaming PC / consoles specifically for this if you do game. Otherwise, for being a laptop, you can't really go wrong with the new M1 chip Macs.

You have your work laptop for that.

For being a personal laptop, the Mac does everything wonderfully -- amazing performance and out of this world battery life.

And it's not like you can't run Office on a Mac (there's a native Mac version), in fact it'd probably handle your calculations faster than a Windows laptop. Only thing you lose are your alt key shortcuts, which granted is annoying but who really cares if all you need it for, as a personal laptop, is a personal finance spreadsheet that you update once a month or something along those lines?

Ditto. You can even go for the new M1 MacBook Air if you want to save a few hundred dollars and shave only a hair of performance. There are some good YouTube videos comparing the two. Also, if you’re a student (or have someone that can buy for you that is a student), you can get $100 off at the Apple store.

I received one of the new M1 laptops for Christmas and they’re really nice.
