Best Place to live in NYC (Manhattan)

A few buddies and I will be looking for housing in NYC next semester, and we are trying to figure out a good spot to live. The one issue is that 2 of our offices are in Midtown, and 2 of our offices are in the Tribeca/Greenwich area. We are trying to minimize commute times while staying (reasonably) within a 2k monthly budget (ideally a bit lower). Any suggestions? Thank you!
