Best shoes for those with orthotics/inserts?
Hi all,
I know there are about 30 different shoe/suit/etc. threads out there but I think my question is a little more specific.
I am starting my consulting job this summer and over the next 6 months would like to invest in a nice, comfortable dress shoe. Unfortunately, I also have flat feet. So flat they lick the floor. So I have rather thick orthotics/inserts that are roughly 3/4 to 1 inch thick.
The last four years in college I've typically worn J&Ms with my inserts in. I have tried/bought maybe 3-4 pairs and they are "alright," meaning they are uncomfortably tight but I suck it up because I've needed to wear them for interviews and other events. Yes, I have tried upsizing -- to a point. The main problem is that the lacing area becomes too tight/constricted and makes the top of my foot hurt over time.
My question is: Has anyone who has to deal with orthotics found a brand of shoe that is the most forgiving with a thick orthotic? Or should I suck it up and keep my J&M's because they don't get too much better regardless of brand. Or should I look for a custom made shoe? (Where/who?)
Thanks a lot!
