Biden (and Trump) did exactly the right thing on Afghanistan.

We've been "just about to leave" that mess for the past decade.  If we had waited for every last person to be safe, it would have taken another 5 years.  Good on Biden for pulling the plug on that disaster, even if the media is against it.  No matter what, people would have got hurt and the Taliban would have taken over, after all it's a fucking war zone.

We should have been out of Afghanistan a long time ago.  Others may disagree, but I do not like the idea of dedicating money and lives to nation building.  It is not our job to fix nations.   It does not matter who was in office.  They all failed regarding the exit strategy.   We went to Afghanistan for a specific reason and once the goal was accomplished, we should have been devising a plan to exit the country.  Instead we stayed there for 20 years, which is absurd.  Would there ever really have been an ideal time to exit Afghanistan?  I would rather spend the money in the US.

I agree with financeabc and incorporate all of their thinking in my post as well. By definition, it is difficult to safely evacuate everyone out of a hostile country because you must have people there to secure the ground so that hostiles cannot attack you. But if you have people on the ground to secure it, how have you evacuated everyone? In a truly hostile environment, it is very difficult to evacuate everyone. Kabul and other major cities (for there are American and Afghan allies and assets in other places as well), are currently hostile. This contrasts starkly with the Vietnam War, where virtually all Americans and Vietnamese allies who wished to escape were allowed to do so, with many Vietnamese refugees besides. By the beginning of April, virtually all Americans and Vietnamese allies had already fled the country; Saigon only fell during April 29-30. The United States failed to anticipate the speed of the collapse of Kabul which made a Saigon/broader Vietnam evacuation strategy untenable.

[Of course, we now know about the two, possibly 3 explosive attacks in Kabul, for which ISIS in Khorasan (ISIS-K) have taken credit. Unlike the Taliban, they have no vested interest in allowing Americans to safely evacuate the country, destabilizing the entire situation. The Taliban have an incentive to behave because they still want diplomatic recognition as the true government of Afghanistan, which doesn't fly too well if they attack their own people at the airport.]

99% of Afghans want the country to be ruled by Sharia law. 85% support stoning for adultery, 79% death sentence for apostasy.

The overwhelming majority don't want gay prides with kids, pink haired academics teaching gender studies or critical race theory.

Speaking of which, any further military action taken by the West should strictly follow diversity, equity and inclusion recruiting, therefore:

- bipoc

- gender non-binary, non-cis

- women leaders

It is extremely important that in 2021, we show the patriarchal heteronormative Afghan society that diversity is our strength and that straight white males that ruined society with slavery, racism, sexism and transphobia no longer hold any power here, therefore will never be included in further oversea military actions again.
