Books to Read
Looking for book recommendations in the form of stories rather than bios or mindset or investing books. Thinking about other books in the same category as Barbarians at the Gate, Den of Thieves, Caesars Palace Coup, etc. Also really enjoyed things like The Buyside (Turney Duff) and Discussion Materials by Bill Keenan so if you have similar books to that would gladly take those recs.
In the Light of What We Know, Zia Haider Rahman
1. Malazan: Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson. Think LOTR but on a bigger and darker scale
2. Dune Saga by Frank Herbert
3. Prince of Nothing by R Scott Bakker, very dark but deep philosophical fantasy series
4. Dark Tower by Stephen King
5. Game of Thrones by GRR Martin. It's unfinished, but still a great series and the books far exceed the HBO show
1)More Money than God, a great book about the creation and growth of Hedge Funds
2) The Psychology of Money, I think is a must read also
Black edge
I recently read the book "Life in the Gorbals" written by Kate Donne, a published author. The fictional story follows the life of a boy growing up in the Gorbals during the late 1960s. Kate Donne's writing takes the reader on a journey through life in the Gorbals. You can give it a try to read.
More Money Than God was mentioned above, definitely recommend. Very interesting and gets into the backgrounds of the hedge fund greats (Druckenmiller, Robertson, Soros, etc.). Also would rec Monkey Business if you are looking for a fun read. About DLJ and post-MBA associate life.
The new new thing, I think it shows the silicon valley perfectly. Also isn’t written as a biography of Jim Clark but rather as stories of people who worked with him + his own recollection of events.
When Genius Failed and Fooled by Randomness are incredible must-reads. Flash Boys is very good too.
Others I’ve had recommended but can not personally vouch for include King of Capital, Up Close and All In, and Smartest Guys in the Room.
Obv Liar’s Poker, Monkey Business, and maybe Bonfire of the Vanities by Tom Wolfe if you want a proper novel.
Adding The Predators’ Ball. Great read if you’re into 80s lore.
Had to put Discussion Materials down because I started to disassociate - it's the closest you'll get to the real experience currently - I couldn't tell where my life stopped and the book started.
The Mountain Is You by Brianna Wiest. It's an incredibly impactful book that delves into the realms of self-discovery and personal growth.
Principles for Navigating Big Debt Crises
World Order
The Black Swan
Blink
The Contrarian
Guns, Germs and Steel
