Capitol Protestors - Why Were They All Not Carted Off and Escorted to Jail

If you can't tell already, I am very pissed off about what happened at the Capitol.  Anyone who trespasses at the Capitol, especially with weapons, should be immediately taken to prison.  I am totally disgusted with how we handled this situation.  The situation makes us look like a banana republic.  Armed forces should have been called in immediately because it happened at the fucking Capitol!!!

Were you pissed off when BLM rioters looted an entire block of stores?

------The Ben Shapiro/Alex Jones Caucus.

You don't realize that thousands of people breaching the Capitol with weapons is very different from rioters who who were protesting law enforcement's treatment of black people.  No rational person supported the violence in reaction to the black people who were murdered.   Taking over the OUR Capitol building is a very different situation.

that's not how prison works but i agree with the sentiment

I am pretty sure, when you trespass the Capitol with weapons, the next step would be jail at best

financeabc is getting excited now that he finally has a valid criticism of Trump that isn't MSM propaganda

According to non "MSM" they were all Antifa plants.

So we still have no valid criticisms of Trump, if you watch Fox News or Alex Jones or whatever.  In other words... we never will, which has kind of been the point all along.

Combination of:

1) Not enough police manpower; and

2) Many in uniform agreed with the ploy of the rioters.

I hope your comment about the uniformed people agreeing with the plan is not true.

Unfortunately, it kind of is.  Police tend to respond with less force to right wing protests, even when you control for unarmed vs armed protests, than they do to left wing protests.  In other words, broadly speaking, the police are on the side of extremist right wing militias and white nationalists, and are more likely to oppose, and use force to do so, even a peaceful left wing protest.

There was a video at one entry point to the outside mezzanine where it appears police let them in and pulled aside the barricades.  This will need to be investigated, because we can’t be sure what happened.  Other police were taking selfies.  That needs investigation, but to look for a good explanation perhaps (perhaps) those officers were trying to pacify the crowd because they were outmanned.

The vast majority of the Capitol Police did their very best and were very valiant.  They were simply outmanned, which is unprecedented and inexplicable.  The reason they were outmanned probably has multiple factors ranging from bad calls to political, to conceivably bad intentions.

We won’t know what really happened for some time, but there’s no question that it should not have happened....that DC has handled much larger protests and riots.

This is Washington, D.C. - there's law enforcement on almost every other block. Post 9/11 Pentagon attack and the D.C. Sniper, policeman power has been through the roof. I have a hard time believing their weren't enough police.

“To be clear, the District of Columbia is not requesting other federal law enforcement personnel and discourages any additional deployment without immediate notification to, and consultation with, MPD if such plans are underway,” Bowser wrote in a letter to acting U.S. Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen, acting Secretary of Defense Chris Miller, and Secretary of the Army Ryan D. McCarthy.

Right, because it's kind of crazy to assume that the "protest' would turn into an armed coup attempt that was pretty clearly abetted by the police themselves, at least tacitly.

Ozymandia

They're white.  Pretty simple, really.

Sadly you are probably correct.  It must be a racial issue.  It is unfathomable how protestors were allowed to roam around inside the Capitol building, with weapons, without severe consequences.  I believe there were actually photos of police officers taking selfies with the protestors.

@financeabc, where were you when CHAZ happened? A whole section of a city was taken over by insurrectionists and only Donald Trump wanted to disbanded it. Left wingers also get a pass in many cases, and the media glorified it as a "summer of love and peace."

This is a straw man argument.  A situation not being handled properly in Seattle does not justify the poor handling of the situation at the Capitol.  Try using some common sense regarding these situations.  BLM actually has a legitimate purpose.  The storming of the capitol was all based on conspiracy theories, largely fueled by the POTUS

So a bunch of upper-middle class, white, unemployed 20-some year olds with ACAB in their instagram bios taking over a part of a city, building a wall, extorting local businesses, creating a country with the highest amount of crime per capita, murder and rapes occurring, and establishing a gang of armed patrolmen was productive?
