Chat GPT and confidential information
I've been using Chat GPT to summarize company decks I receive--copy paste the exec sum, ask it to make some 5-10 bullet points, then read the deck with the context that is needed. But if the information is confidential, is Chat GPT using it in some way, or storing the information? It's an incredibly useful tool but not enough for me to risk anything.

I doubt they have the capacity to store all the information every user is entering but I still don't think I would risk it.
At the very least I would remove the company name.
They definitely could store it if they wanted. Their compute capacity is astoundingly high. They literally need to store trillions of links from the internet for ChatGPT to work as it does, not much different to Google just with a better UI.
I don't believe they would store all the information and requests.
also, big news on them

The FAQ's on OpenAI say to not store any specific information and/or utilize sensitive information. I'd take them at their word. I would limit usage for business, and my bank doesn't even allow me to access the site on my work computer, to very high level publicly available things that aren't highly specific.
Admittedly - why wouldn't it? Isn't that the best part of this type of AI, you end up getting more and more information as people utilize it. More styles, more questions, it learns from all of that. Certainly it's mind boggling to store and index that much information - but seems that it's too good to pass up.
On the MSFT investment - that's a no brainer. Imagine a plug in with their office 365 suite - I know they have the Cortana thing, but this would be incredible to use across their suite. The business intelligence applications would be fantastic IMO.
Use a VPN and do it through any EU country. GDPR will protect you then, and MSFT and their O365 or Azure can't do jack since they helped write the laws.
They probably keep the data, if it’s AI built off ML.
ChatGPT is still in beta, OpenAI store all user inputs to further develop the language model. During my internship, I wasn't even allowed to use Grammarly - due to security risks. I wouldn't risk it with a web application that explicitly states it stores your inputs.
One question, two answers.
If using your work computer: you’re giving OpenAI access to this confidential info. The fact that we can’t envision OpenAI having the capacity or interest in abusing the info, is irrelevant. It’s a breach of the NDA and subjects the firm to legal risk.
If using your own computer: nobody watching, do whatever, who cares really
Wouldn't do it if i was you.
That's why companies don't use free PDF editing software as well - you never know who's at the other end.
